SKAGWAY: ADVENTURE GUIDE
May 1, 2008 to September 27, 2008 At least 120 days must be committed. Preference will be given to candidates that can work the entire season.
RATE OF PAY: $10.50 per hours plus incentive bonus upon completion of contract.
HOURS: 40 hours per week
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Represent Holland America Line and Gray Line of Alaska in a professional and courteous manner. Operate active outdoor tours for Cruise Ship and Gray Line of Alaska passengers. Our tours involve meeting cruise ship passengers and providing them with an exceptional experience. Guides will practice all appropriate safety precautions while mountain bike riding, hiking and escorting guests on river float and train trips. All guides will need to become familiar with the area and provide thorough tour narration to our guests. All Adventure Guides need to be in good physical condition, must have an outgoing personality and must exhibit leadership skills.
JOB OUTLINE:
- Represent Holland America Line & Gray Line of Alaska in a professional manner.
- Work with the shore excursion staff from the ships and the Gray Line operations team to coordinate final adventure tour passenger counts and timely staging of GLA vehicles.
- Collect shore excursion tickets and/or vouchers and report sales to the Gray Line dock representatives.
- Develop a strong knowledge of the local area and tour material, convey knowledge and enthusiasm for tour content and always look out for the safety of our passengers and co-workers.
- Perform bicycle maintenance, maintain an organized shop area, and maintain snack and beverage inventories.
- Help Gray Line establish and maintain a great working relationship with our Adventure Crew partners.
- Operate company vans when transitioning passengers to and from their cruise ship.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must present a current First Aid and CPR card upon hire. EMT or additional medical training is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license with no more than 1 moving violation on your driving record in order to operate company vehicles.
- Required to exhibit strong and clear speaking skills in order to provide informative and clear narration.
- Exhibit an ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Prior mountain biking experience in either another tour company or sporting venue preferred.
- Guides need to be aware of client's needs, group dynamics and be able to make quick decisions.
- Previous experience in the tourism industry and outdoor recreation preferred.

- At least 18 years of age.
- U.S. Citizen or able to legally work in the U.S.
- Must enjoy working with all types of people.
- Must have at least one year of customer service experience.
- Must be able to commit to a minimum 120-day season.
- Must be able to perform a wide variety of customer service and administrative tasks.
