SEATTLE, Wash. – Fans of the Sean Penn movie “Into the Wild,” which chronicles the dramatic true story of a young man’s solo adventure into the Alaska wilderness, can now explore the setting of the movie when visiting Denali National Park with Gray Line of Alaska.
New for the 2008 season, the four-hour narrated
Into The Wild tour traces the route traveled by 24-year-old Chris McCandless, subject of the movie based on Jon Krakauer’s best seller, “Into the Wild,” who tackled the terrain near Denali National Park and lived off the land with few supplies and little practical knowledge of wilderness survival. Tour participants drive two-person all-terrain vehicles and wear helmets fitted with radios to hear the guides’ narrative. Each departure includes two guides, one to lead and one at the back, and a maximum of eight ATVs.
The
Into The Wild tour departs daily May 30 to Sept. 15 from Denali National Park and is available to independent travelers and as an add-on to all 17
Gray Line of Alaska multiple-day tours to Denali. “This adventure tour is a great option for Gray Line guests who have a day in Denali,” says Mark Mumm, director of sales and marketing. “The all-terrain vehicles are fun to drive and provide a safe way to explore the wilderness around the park. And there are ample opportunities for wildlife sightings and views of Mount McKinley, weather permitting.”
The tour navigates Stampede Trail, the same rugged trail that McCandless walked as he went into the Alaska bush. Tour guides offer rare insight into his fatal journey as participants become immersed in the story’s setting. The tour includes a snack/beverage break and discussion around a campfire. Cost is $115 per person.
