Denali National Park typically tops the list of places where Alaska travelers say they wish they had stayed an extra day. In 2009, Gray Line of Alaska is granting that wish with an offer to add one or two extra nights onto select
package tours for only $99 per room, per night.
“Our
package tours are an incredible value combining premium hotels and transportation,” said Mark Mumm, director of sales and marketing. “And this special offer to stay one or two nights longer in Denali will allow guests more time to explore deeper into the park’s renowned wilderness, see more wildlife, as well as take a day tour like rafting down the Nenana River or joining a guided hike.”
Denali consists of more than six million acres of protected wilderness and is home to Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet. The park offers stunning views of the majestic peak on clear days. With one road in and out, visitors feel the sense of wildness while exploring. The main road is closed to private vehicles after milepost 15 prompting most visitors to take a bus or van tour narrated by knowledgeable guides.
The $99 offer is based on double occupancy and is available for travelers who book a package tour through Gray Line of Alaska that includes at least one night in Denali National Park between May and September 2009. It’s not available on custom group packages or escorted tours. Package tours include transportation between Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks on a deluxe motor coach or luxury, domed McKinley Explorer railcars.
The most popular itinerary is the
Denali Sampler, a three day and two night tour that can be customized to begin or end in Fairbanks or Anchorage. It includes one night hotel in either Fairbanks or Anchorage, transportation by motor coach or rail to Denali National Park with a one night stay, and transportation back to Anchorage or Fairbanks. Rates start at $449 per person.
An additional night adds more time to explore inside the park increasing the likelihood of seeing wildlife such as bear, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, eagles, wolves and other creatures. Day tours may be purchased through Gray Line of Alaska and activities include hiking, rafting, horseback riding, ATV exploration, jeep tours and flightseeing over Mt. McKinley.
Two sightseeing tours are offered which take guests into the park on buses. The
Natural History Tour travels 17 miles into the park with narration along the way about the history and culture of the area. The seven to eight hour Tundra Wilderness Tour travels even further into the park—about 50 to 60 miles in—with striking views of Mt. McKinley on clear days. Both tours offer many opportunities for spotting wildlife along the way. These tours can be purchased through Gray Line of Alaska.
