Denali-Talkeetna Explorer - 3TN Itinerary
Experience the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska on this 7-day tour that originates in the state’s largest city and takes you through Denali National Park and the Golden Heart City of Fairbanks. After arriving and spending time in Anchorage, you will venture to Denali National Park where the 20,320-foot Denali, the highest peak in North America, often emerges from the clouds, granting perfect photo opportunities. Watch for grizzly bears, wolves, caribou and a wide variety of other wildlife including Arctic ground squirrels and bald eagles. Enjoy dinner and a show at the Music of Denali Dinner Theater at McKinley Chalet Resort featuring family-style dining and a spirited original musical about the first men to reach the summit of Denali. Overnight at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge in the quaint town of Talkeetna and enjoy fine cuisine and luxury accommodations before heading north to Fairbanks, where gold rush and riverboat tours await you.

Upgrade your rail experience from Denali to Fairbanks for $100 per person. The standard tour features Alaska Railroad’s Adventure Class for this rail component of the tour. When you choose the upgrade, you will travel aboard Alaska Railroad's Goldstar service instead. Adventure Class railcars do not feature a dome and meals are available for purchase. Goldstar service is aboard Alaska Railroad’s domed railcars and dinner aboard the train is included.
With the standard option, rail travel from Anchorage to Talkeetna and Talkeetna to Denali is aboard our own luxury, glass-domed rail service (meals not included, but available for purchase) and the upgrade option applies only to the portion of the trip from Denali to Fairbanks.

Day 1: Anchorage
Upon your arrival at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, we will transport you to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to explore this city that is well known for a thriving arts and culture scene, restaurants and museums and miles of hiking and biking trails through urban greenbelts. Catch world-renowned entertainment at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts or learn about Native culture at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 2: Anchorage – Mt. McKinley
Travel aboard a luxury railcar from Anchorage to the quirky town of Talkeetna that inspired the TV show “Northern Exposure.” Settle into your room at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening by the stone fireplace in its grand lobby, nicknamed the “Great Room,” where you will enjoy inspirational views of Mount McKinley and the Alaska Range. If you’re feeling adventurous, stop by the tour desk to book an optional excursion. Overnight at Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge.
Day 3: Mt. McKinley – Denali
Enjoy another scenic ride aboard one of our luxury railcars, where you can take in the view of the Alaska and Talkeetna mountain ranges through the glass dome of the railcar as you travel to Denali National Park. Watch for the majestic snow-covered peak of the "Great One" looming above the “smaller” mountains of the Alaska Range. Once you’ve arrived at Denali, choose from a variety of activities that including hiking and fishing. This evening, enjoy an unforgettable dinner experience at Music of Denali Dinner Theater at McKinley Chalet Resort. Overnight at a Denali-area hotel.(D)
Day 4: Denali National Park
Immerse yourself in the six-million-acre wilderness of Denali National Park on the Tundra Wilderness Tour. Keep your eyes peeled for Denali’s “Big Five” – Dall sheep, caribou, grizzly bears, moose and wolves. Bring along binoculars to spot distant animals and have your camera ready, it is common to spot wildlife from the road. Later, choose from optional activities and end your day on a high note with a visit to a sled dog kennel, flightseeing adventure or ATV ride. Overnight at a Denali-area hotel.(S)
Day 5: Denali National Park – Fairbanks
Before heading north farther into Alaska’s Interior, start your day with optional activities that include nine holes of golf surrounded by Alaska wilderness or an ATV adventure. Later, you will re-board the train to continue your journey to Fairbanks. Experience dinner onboard this evening. Nicknamed the Golden Heart City, Fairbanks boasts unforgettable Arctic wilderness illuminated by the midnight sun, a rich gold rush past and a lively arts and culture scene. Once you’ve arrived, settle into your lodging for the evening and unwind after a full day. Overnight in Fairbanks.(D)
Day 6: Fairbanks
Spend the day exploring Fairbanks, including a visit to Gold Dredge 8 where you will have the chance to pan for gold and learn about modern-day gold mining. Later, board the motor coach for a drive to Steamboat Landing, where you will enjoy a hearty lunch on the banks of the beautiful Chena River. After lunch, step aboard the Riverboat Discovery and find out what it’s like to cruise on an authentic sternwheeler. Along the river, experience Alaska’s diverse cultural heritage as you pass riverside log cabins, visit the kennel of an Iditarod champion and witness a bush pilot performance. Day 7: Fairbanks
The tour wraps up with a transfer from your hotel to the Fairbanks airport. On the flight home, watch out the airplane window for spectacular views of snow-covered mountains and winding glaciers as you savor your memories of an incredible adventure in the Last Frontier.
